Parenthood is the leading reason that teen girls drop out of school and often, teen parents experience financial difficulties while raising their families and pursuing higher education. A group of students at Highlander Charter School in Providence recently created a video in support of S2130 and H7115, an act relating to human services and child care assistance, after seeing how teen pregnancy is affecting a fellow student.
In the video, the students read aloud a letter written by their classmate – who wishes to remain anonymous – about how having a baby has changed her life and details her concerns for the future now that she needs to take care of her child as a teen mom.
